I've been analysing my tesla coil brief, and I am bitterly disappointed to admit that maybe building one isn't the bent investment of my time, considering that I could possibly borrow a bigger, more impressive one from someone else.
Poo.
However I think I've realised my reasoning behind that proposal now.
The word 'material' obviously relates to fabric. However the word is far more wide reaching than that - material is just stuff that things are made out of, raw materials can be anything. Where am I going with this?
Making the word 'material' out of interesting combinations of substances can produce what I believe to be some truly beautiful visual effects.
Some techy talk at the beginning of these videos. Skip to the time shown after the subtitle to just get the visuals.
Hot Ice (Skip to 0:55 seconds)
Ferrofluid (Skip to 1:37 seconds to avoid flux lines, density and distortions)
Lightning - fine as it is
Potassium Permangenate and Glycerol (Skip to 0:28 seconds)
Thermite - fine as it is
Oh, and I would quite like to blow up the word material, that would be fun. Super slomo.
...Obviously that last one may be slightly more difficult.
I've always been interested in science - my parents are scientists, I can't help it ...and a little bit of a pyromaniac.
